Social Networks- High school all over again...
Admittedly, I am a bit chronic with the social networking. Currently, I am a member of Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter. Of the three, I use Facebook the most. It has put me in touch with people from high school. People with whom I have not spoken in fifteen years. Some of whom I, honestly, barely even remember. Others, I was very happy to reconnect with. Naturally, many of my current friends are on there, as well as a few of my family members.
I have received compliments from old classmates on the pictures of my kids, comments on some of my posts, etc. And I have done the same. But in doing so, I have noticed something. The cliques are still the same.
I think I sent friend requests to one or two of my former classmates. The rest that are on my friends list sent them to me. Which doesn't really matter. I don't really pay much attention to who Facebook says I should know. What I have noticed in reading threads and seeing who responds to mine and how my responses are received, etc is that Facebook is a lot like high school. The same people still talk mostly to the same people.
This makes me ponder a few things to find out the ultimate reason that would be the same after all these years. Are these people still really that much like they were then and afraid to get out of their comfort zone? Am I the one afraid to get out of mine when it comes to the people I've known the longest? Have these people just stayed in touch over the years while I left everything behind? Is it just easier to fall back into your old groups after being out of touch? Or am I just that unapproachable and was I that way back then?
